A native of this area, I attended 2nd through 8th grade at Hawthorn (many years ago!) and graduated from Libertyville High School. My BA in Music Education comes from Western Illinois University, and I earned my Masters of Music Education at VanderCook College of Music. The 2017-18 school year will be my sixteenth year teaching band and music at Hawthorn! I enjoy and appreciate the opportunity to work with so many wonderful students and feel blessed to have the musical talent and background giving me the ability to do so!
I have played flute since I was in 4th grade, and continue to perform in two local chamber groups: Cinqueventi Woodwind Quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon) and Trio Bon Vie (flute, cello, and piano). My husband and I are both founding members of the North Suburban Wind Ensemble, directed by retired LHS band director Don Shupe. We enjoy having the opportunity to practice and perform high quality band repertoire with this amazing group! Please come out and support us! Our next concert is Sunday, November 19th at 4 PM in the Libertyville High School auditorium.
More than anything, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have two wonderful daughters; Camryn is six and Ruth turned four in September. They constantly remind me to find joy in the little things while testing my patience on a daily basis. My family appreciates the outdoors and being away from the hustle and bustle. We enjoy hiking, biking, snowshoeing, paddling and skiing. I'm currently working to regain my confidence on a mountain bike and proudly finished the very muddy Lutsen 39er race in June. I hope to return in 2018. Wish me luck!
